I already own a domain

Bought a domain through GoDaddy, Fasthosts, 123 Reg or another provider? Good news: you don't need to move it anywhere. Connecting is how every TrueQuote Website works with an existing domain — there's no "moving it to us" option, because you don't need one.

Connect it — leave it where it is

Remember the shop analogy: your domain is your address, and DNS is the signposts. To use your domain with a TrueQuote Website, we don't need to move the address — we just need the signposts pointed at your new site.

This is called connecting (the technical term is changing your nameservers), and it works like this:

1. You fill in the form with your domain name and where it's registered.
2. We give you two or three short lines to paste into your provider's control panel — or, with your permission, we log in and do it for you. It takes about five minutes.
3. The internet's signposts update, and your domain starts showing your TrueQuote Website.

What stays the same

Almost everything, which is the point:

• Your domain stays registered with your current provider, in your account, in your name.
• You keep the renewals going with them, exactly as you do now — Transfers & renewals explains why that stays your job.
• It's reversible. If you ever want to point the domain somewhere else, you can.
• It's fast. Usually done within a couple of hours; up to 48 at the outside (see Downtime & email).

"But my domain just shows a parking page"

That's fine — better than fine, actually. If your domain isn't running a live website yet (it shows a "coming soon" page, an advert page from your provider, or nothing at all), connecting it is completely painless. There's nothing live to interrupt, so there's no downtime at all — one minute it shows the parking page, the next it shows your new website.

"My domain already has a live website"

Also fine — but read Downtime & email first so you know what to expect, and tell us in the form. We'll time the switch so your old site stays up until your new one is ready to take over.

What we need from you

Just the form. If you use email on your domain (like info@yourbusiness.co.uk), tick the box that says so — we'll make sure your email settings come across so nothing gets lost. More on that in Downtime & email.
